This project
(not exactly a mural, more like a large-scale painting) was commissioned
by a local family who wanted a variation of a reproduction of a
sort of famous poster advertising the Chesapeake Beach Railway.
This rail service ran from Washington, DC directly to my little
town of Chesapeake Beach, which at the time (around the beginning
of the 20th century) was hailed as the closest saltwater beach to
the Nations' Capitol.
Originally they
wanted me to paint a mural directly onto the interior wall of their
home, but after much consideration we settled on a 72"H x 36"W
canvas wrapped panel hung by a cleat which would be easier for all
involved to produce and would be removable and portable.
We were able
to create a one-of-a-kind, completely personal piece by changing
some aspects (including the dimensions) and adding some elements
to it that were not in the original advertisement poster.
